Francis J. "Yup" Gardella

Francis J. "YUP" Gardella, 86, of Pocasset Bay Manor, Johnston, and formerly of Woonsocket, No. Smithfield and Cumberland, quietly passed away on Friday Jan. 29, 2010 at R.I Hospital, Providence, RI. He was the husband of the late Mary Jeanette Salome

Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Henry William and Rose Alba (Beaudet) Gardella.

Mr. Gardella was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles and later a chief Petty officer in the U.S Navy serving in WW II. He worked 20 years for the former Uniroyal Rubber Company as head machinist and also managed the custodians and maintenance staff in the Bellingham School Dept. until his retirement. His love for the ocean and boating established his nickname "YUP" , the name his many boats had carried through out several yacht clubs, lastly Port Edgewood.

He leaves his loving family, son Daniel F. and wife Kathryn, grandsons, Joshua, Jared, and Gareth Gardella of North Kingstown, daughters Katherine Hien and Ann Caron of Woonsocket and Patricia Moreau of Manville. Additionally, he leaves several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and loving nieces and nephews.

He was brother to the late Henry W. and George A. Gardella and Rita M. Peruchini. He is survived by a sister Mary G. "Kippy " Roy of Woonsocket.

A service will be held on Tuesday at 10 am inside the Egidio DiPardo & Sons Funeral Home, 75 Harris Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. Calling hours are Tuesday morning from 9-10 am.
