Michael L. Smith, 77, of Sebastian, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Michael was born in Providence, RI to the late Dr. and Mrs. Ernest J. Smith Jr.
The family later relocated to Oakland, RI where he attended the local schools in Burrillville. during his elementary years, and later graduated from Mount Saint Charles Academy in
Woonsocket. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Rhode Island.
Mike was an avid entrepreneur and worked for several start-up companies in the technology field, most recently Biometric Associates where he served as Chief Product Officer.
He had a passion for the family’s lineage, keeping distant relatives connected. and proudly collecting artifacts from past generations. Mike loved to spend his free time fishing with his son, Alex. He also enjoyed going to the Boston Red Sox games and hiking Mt. Washington while visiting RI. He loved his dogs and always had Dobermans throughout his life, most recently Zoe, who will miss him very much.
Mike’s kindness, quick wit, and genuine heart will never be forgotten. Micheal is survived by his loving wife, Cindy (Haynes) Smith from Sebastian, FL and son, Alex Smith from Tallahassee, FL.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy J. Smith, sister in-laws, Ann Smith and Nan Smith and nephew, Timothy E. Smith.
He is also survived by brothers, Bradley. Smith and wife Pam from N. Yarmouth, ME, Jeffrey Smith from Fairhaven, MA, Ernest J. Smith III from Harrisville, Cleighton Smith and wife Lisa from Medford, NJ, Matthew Smith and wife Mei from Melbourne, FL, David Smith and wife Patti from Pascoag, Joel Smith from Gloucester, and sister, Kimberley (Smith) Rondeau and husband Marc from Coventry, RI.
He is also survived by 7 nieces and 7 nephews.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 1496 Victory Hwy., Oakland, RI.
Calling hours will be held at Brown’s funeral home in Oakland, RI on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 4 to 7 PM, with a Funeral Mass at 10 AM on Thursday, March 7, at Our Lady of Good Help Church in Mapleville, RI. Burial will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Pawling Cemetery in Pawling, NY.
