Brother Robert Martineau Obituary

Brother Robert Martineau was born on August 22, 1940, in Manchester, NH, the son of Adrien and Ida (Laplante) Martineau. In his early years, he attended Catholic schools in Manchester, graduating from Ste-Marie High School in 1959. Soon after, he entered the formation program of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Harrisville, RI, taking vows on August 24, 1961. Robert gained degrees in English and Religion and taught in schools of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Quebec. In 1968, Robert began his service to the people of Eastern and Southern Africa whom he would serve for the remainder of his life in Zambia, Lesotho and Uganda as teacher, vocation director and regional superior. Since 2008, Robert has directed Project Uplift in Kampala, Uganda which has the mission of enabling young people to complete their high school education in a non-traditional setting. Robert is survived by his brother, Roger, his sister-in-law, Mary and their extended family. We offer our deepest thanks to the staff of Overlook Nursing Home for their care and support in his final days. Services will be at the Brothers’ Residence, 685 Steere Farm Rd., Pascoag, RI, on Saturday, April 28. Wake, 9:00 am; Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 am, followed by interment in the Brothers cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Mission Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 1496 Victory Hwy., Oakland.
