Brother Roger Thibault Obituary

BROTHER ROGER MARCEL THIBAULT, S.C., age 72, a resident of Pascoag, RI, since 2014, died unexpectedly at Hospice St. Antoine, North Smithfield, RI, on December 4, 2018 at 8:30 in the morning. He had been a resident at St. Antoine’s for a few weeks prior to his death. Brother Roger, son of the late Laurier Thibault and Leona Patenaude Thibault, was a native of Lewiston, Maine and a 1964 graduate of St. Dominic High School. He earned a BS degree in French from Rhode Island College in 1976 and a MA degree in Religious Studies from Providence College in 1989. As a Brother of the Sacred Heart, he pronounced his first vows in 1978 and professed his final vows in 1985. From 1978 to 2014, Brother Roger ministered as a French and Religion teacher at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, NH, Rice Memorial High School, Burlington, VT, and Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI. He retired from active ministry to the Brothers’ Retirement Center in Pascoag, RI, in 2014. An only child, Brother Roger was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two first cousins, Ms. Lorraine Heroux of Central Falls, RI, and Edmond (Eddy) and Jackie Heroux of Pawtucket RI. A wake will be held on Sunday, December 9 from 6 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Retirement Center, Sacred Heart Chapel, 685 Steere Farm Road in Pascoag. The funeral Mass will take place on Monday, December 10 at 11:15 AM. Presiding will be Father Roger Houle, Chaplain of Hospice St. Antoine’s Nursing Home. Brother Roger will be interred in the Brothers’ Cemetery in Pascoag. Donations in memory of Brother Roger may be sent to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Foundation, 4600 Elysian Fields Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70122. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 1496 Victory Hwy., Oakland RI.
