Henry E. "Red" Picard, 89, of Mapleville, RI, passed away September 5, 2019, at Bayberry Commons Nursing Home in Pascoag.
He was the loving husband of 69 years to Jeannette (Gervais) Picard. Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Henry & Georgiana (Cormier) Picard.
Red worked many years for the former Crosby Valve Co. from where he retired. He was a lifetime member of the Woonsocket Elks Lodge BPOE #850 and was previously a member of the former Woonsocket Racquetball Club. In his younger days he enjoyed playing baseball and bowling. He also enjoyed fishing, gambling on race horses and traveling to Florida with his wife for many years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Russell Picard and his wife Donna, a daughter, Sharon Pena and step-grandson, Joseph Pena.
He was preceded in death by son, Michael Picard, son-in-law, Ramon "Ray" Pena and his siblings, Eva Dufresne, Beatrice Plante, Noella Beaudet, Bertha Pace and Edmund Picard.
His funeral will be held Friday at 9 AM from the Brown Funeral Home, 1496 Victory Hwy., Oakland with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of Good Help Church, 1063 Victory Hwy., Mapleville. Burial will follow in St. Jean the Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham, MA. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Landmark Medical Center, 115 Cass Ave., Woonsocket, RI 02895.
