Leo Desmarais

Leo Desmarais, 86, of Mohegan, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2017 at the Hebert Nursing Home. Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late Theophile and Clarinda (Laperle) Desmarais. He was the loving husband to Vivian (Suprenant) Desmarais for 62 years. Leo worked at the Harmony Mills and Cadillac Textiles as a foreman and weaver in Pawtucket. He also worked at CVS warehouse in Woonsocket. A resident of Burrillville for many years. He served in the Korean War as a Marine and is a member of the American Legion Post 88. He was also a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Theresa’s Church. Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Leo and his wife Cynthia, of Johnston, Diane Clossick, North Providence and Marcel and his wife Christine, of Mohegan. A brother, Oscar and his wife Jeannine Desmarais. Grandchildren include, Heather and her husband Mike Viccione, Sandy Clossick and her husband Arthur Slader, Brian and his wife, Dena Clossick, Tracy Clossick, Kerri and her husband Shawn Jenkins, Benjamin and his wife Shannon Desmarais, Aaron Desmarais and Nick and his wife Jessica Libucha as well as 11 great grandchildren. Leo was preceded in death by his siblings, Normand and Raymond Desmarais and Theresa Gagne and his son-in-law, James Clossick. His funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 AM from the Brown Funeral Home, 1496 Victory Highway, Oakland, RI with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am St. Theresa’s Church, 35 Dion Drive, Nasonville. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations, in his honor, to be made to St. Theresa’s Church, 35 Dion Drive, Harrisville, RI, 02830.
