Brissette, Nelson R, age 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 8, at The VA Medical Center, Providence. Born in Woonsocket on May 14, 1927, he was the son of the late Raoul Brissette and Corona Heroux.
Nelson was pre-deceased by his wife of 59 years, Florence Gaudreau, his sister Doris Marichel, and his grandson Stephen N. Fleurant. He is survived by his children, Russell Brissette and his wife Kerry of North Smithfield, and Linda Fleurant and her husband Denis, of Smithfield, and his beloved cat, Spooky.
Nelson was a proud WW11 US Navy veteran. He worked at American Felt Corp for many years, and later retiring from work at Mid-State Tool.
He was an experienced private pilot, owning his own plane for over 40 years. An accomplished fiddle player, Nelson won many competitions. He composed his own music, and created many recordings with his son. He enjoyed playing cribbage with his daughter, science and astronomy and watching boxing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.
Nel was always quick to flash a smile, give a witty remark, or try to fool his family with his trickery. He will be greatly missed.
Burial will be on Friday, September 20, at 11 am at St Jean-Baptiste Cemetery, 310 Wrentham Rd., Bellingham, MA. Calling hours respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Nelson’s honor can be made to Burrillville Animal Shelter, 105 Harrisville Main St, Harrisville, RI 02830.
