Richard P. Cardone, 72, of North Smithfield, passed away with his loving family by his side on March 17, 2019 at the Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, in Providence. Born in Milford, MA, he was the son of the late John and Angela (Papa) Cardone.
Richard was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps serving in the Dominican Republic and in the 3rd Recon Battalion in Vietnam. Reaching the rank of Sergeant, he earned numerous medals such as: the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Navy Commendation with combat valor device and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Upon his honorable release from the military he became a Sergeant with the Burrillville Police Department from 1967 thru 1987 before transitioning in 1987 to becoming a BCI Investigator with the RI Attorney Generals Department under James O’Neil and finishing his tenure there with the Strike Force in 1991. He went on to open his own private investigation office from 1991 – 2009. Richard was also a member of the 3rd Recon Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations, as well as the Sayles Hill Rod and Gun Club and the Smithfield Elks.
He will be greatly missed by his three sons: Todd Cardone and his wife, Melinda, John Cardone and his wife, Heather and Richard Cardone II and his wife Kelly; Grandchildren: John Cardone, Gene Cardone, Chris Cardone, Trista Cardone, Jennifer Cardone, Angela Cardone, Mark Cardone, Richard Cardone III, Bryson Murray and Jackson Cardone. He is also survived and will be missed by his brothers: William and Robert Cardone, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 21, from 4-7 PM at the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Road, North Smithfield. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
