Richard Szaro Obituary

Richard E. Szaro, 75, of North Kingstown and formerly of  Narragansett, passed away on June 18, 2018, at the Landmark Medical Center, in Woonsocket.  Born in Fall River, MA, he was the son to the late Walter and Genevieve (Dabek) Szaro.

Richard grew up in Tiverton, RI, and graduated from Durfee High School.  His perfect pitch made him an amazing accordion player during his young childhood years and into early adulthood and that led him to travel with the schools accordion group.  After high school, he attended and very proudly graduated with a Business Degree from UMASS, Dartmouth.  While there, he balanced out his studies with his passion for basketball.  He played throughout his college days and never missed a single game.  He later shared this passion with his beautiful daughter, Karyn Rae.  At 3 years old, she would be propped up right by his side and would watch games with him that eventually lead  up to the March Madness Series.  He would eagerly read all articles pertaining to basketball and could recite every basketball statistic on command.  He was a huge fan of The Boston Celtics.

After college, he became a Life Insurance Agent for many years and eventually transitioned and held the title of Stock Broker.  He loved traveling and being involved in the Business After Hours with the Providence Business Group and also enjoyed the after work, Steeple Street, High-Low Jack group.

After retiring, his passions turned to traveling and spending time at Narragansett Beach.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Karyn Rae Szaro and her soul mate, John Ricci of Oakland, RI; his devoted wife of 25 years, Grace (Woodall) Szaro, of North Kingstown, RI; his brother, Robert Szaro of Franklin, MA and his stepchildren, Joseph Lungarelli and family including grandson Joey Lungarelli Jr. and stepdaughter,  Lauren Lungarelli- Cone.  He was preceded in death by his first wife of almost 25 years, Jeannette Szaro.

Richards funeral will be held Friday, at 10AM, from the Keene Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Road, North Smithfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Johns Church, Slatersville.  Burial will follow in St. Johns Parish Cemetery.  Visitation will be held, Thursday, from 4-7 PM inside the funeral home.
