Roland G. Drainville, 83, passed away peacefully at the Landmark Medical Center, on October 29, 2018. Born in North Smithfield, he was the son of the late Hormidas and Exilda (Caouette) Drainville. He and his wife Carol (Mallin) Drainville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 4, 2018.
Roland was a graduate of LaSalle Academy in Providence and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a 50 year member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsworkers and a brickmason by trade. After retirement, he was a school bus driver for the Lincoln School Dept. and was an auxiliary driver for the North Smithfield Mini Bus, which serviced senior citizens.
Roland was an active participant and lifelong resident of North Smithfield. In the past, he served on the Zoning Board of Review and was president of the North Smithfield Little League. He was a founding member of Freehill Council Knights of Columbus and a 4thDegree Knight.
Roland was a communicant of the St. John the Evangelist Church and in the past served as Eucharistic Minister, parish trustee and CCD instructor.
Besides his wife, Roland is survived by his children, Marc Drainville and his wife, Elizabeth of Braintree, MA; Brian Drainville and his wife, Amanda, of Westwood, MA; and Lynne Goodwin of North Smithfield. He also leaves his grandchildren, Cohan and Casin Drainville, Julia and Thomas Drainville and Cooper and Leah Goodwin.
Roland was the brother of the late Rita Lacoste.
Roland’s funeral will be Thursday, November 8 at 10 AM from the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Road, North Smithfield, with a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held, Wednesday from 4-7 PM.
