Zane C. Sherman, 85, resident of Harrisville, RI, passed away at his home on May 12, 2019. He was the devoted husband of the late Joan C. (Raftery) Sherman. Born in Chepachet he was the son of the late Grover & Grace (Fadden) Sherman. Zane proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1951 until 1954 with the US Marine Corps. Following the war he served in the National Guard for 23 years, from 1961 until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed traveling, sailing, gardening, woodworking, and cooking. He is survived by his sons, Andrew Peter Sherman, Zane Sherman Jr., and Timothy Sherman, stepchildren, John Mazza Jr., Mark Mazza, Christopher Mazza, and Katherine Lima, grandchildren, Han and Jane, several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and his brother, James "Buddy" Sherman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bruce Sherman and Roddy Sherman, a sister, Gwendolyn "Jean" Sherman, and a step son, Fred Mazza. A committal service will be held Friday at 11:15 am in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Emerson Rd. in Harrisville. Visitation will be held prior to the service in the Brown Funeral Home, 1496 Victory Hwy. Oakland from 10 am until 11 am.
