Amavel “Joe” Santos, 85, of Woonsocket passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023 at The Friendly Home. He was the loving husband to Elizabeth (Bebe) Santos for 56 years. Born in Forestdale, RI he was the son of the late Jose & Olivia (Botas) Santos who immigrated from Portugal.
He was a US Navy veteran and served on the carrier, the USS Leyte. Joe was employed in area textile mills, Standard Cab and Pittsburg Plate Glass. His first job was as a pin boy at The Rec in Woonsocket. He was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo parish. Joe was an avid reader and he enjoyed walking, running, painting, going to the beach and spending time with his family.
Joe will be remembered for his kindness and generosity toward others.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Maria Marrocco, son-in-law, Kenneth Marrocco, and his granddaughter, Sarah. He was the brother of Mary Paux and the late Abel Silva. The family wishes to thank The Friendly Home staff for their kindness, care and dedication.
