Anne Marie (Alarie) Chase

Anne Marie Chase (Alarie), a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, cousin, and friend, passed away surrounded by her devoted family on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the age of 69. She lost a long and hard four-year battle with cancer. She was born on February 20, 1955, in Providence, Rhode Island to George and Anne Alarie (Favali). Anne Marie is survived by her husband of 45 years, William “Bill” Chase Sr., her daughter Melodie Chase, and her son William Chase Jr. She also leaves behind her mother Anne Alarie, her siblings Susan Brown, Tommy Alarie, and his wife Pam Alarie, Paula Alarie-Leca, and her husband Raymond Leca, Mary Pelletier, Kim Alarie, as well as in-laws, cousins and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Mark Alarie and father George Alarie.

She was a caregiver at her core by prioritizing others' needs above hers and finding joy in giving.  Her love and kindness knew no bounds, reaching from local charities to friends across the globe. To know her was to love her. She worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years; and retired in October 2020. She was most known for her passion for cooking and her sense of humor. 

Anne Marie grew up in Johnston, Rhode Island. She had a strong faith in God, and particularly in Mother Mary. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes for elementary school and spoke about it frequently. She went on to St. Patrick's and then graduated high school from Johnston High School in 1973. She graduated from Rhode Island Junior College with an associate degree from the nursing program and became a Registered nurse in the state of Rhode Island. At her job as a nurse, she met who she described as her ‘soul mate’, her husband and lifelong partner, William. They got married in 1979. 

Anne Marie worked in many atmospheres during her long career, which began in 1972 as a nurse's aide. Some of the highlights of her career were as follows; Hopkins Health Center as Inservice Director, Assistant Director of Nursing, Head Nurse(and more) in the late 1970’s. 

She worked for both Fogarty Hospital and Fatima Hospital as a critical care nurse in the

Intensive Care Unit.  She was a Visiting Nurse in Woonsocket. Her final years were spent in Oncology starting in 2002 at Day Kimball Hospital and finished her career at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.  Her job as a nurse was extremely varied over the years but one thing all her co-workers and patients agreed on was she had a wonderful way to put a smile on your face, by finding something that mattered and using it to make your day a little brighter. 

Anne Marie, known for her craftiness, dedicated much of her time to various projects, often creating personalized gifts for patients or charitable donations. Each creation was imbued with her heartfelt touch, reflecting her dedication to bringing joy and meaning to others.

The reach of Anne Marie’s kindness and the difference she made in the world is immeasurable. When her children were young she volunteered at their schools and was actively involved in all their extracurricular activities. She was a true angel on Earth. She helped friends internationally who struggled with mental health and missing home while deployed. She would send care packages to people who needed a little pick-me-up. She was ‘the rock’ for each of her siblings. She made the world a better place than she found it. Her biggest passion was her family; she would do anything for them. Her go-to ‘medicine’ was laughter and food, she always felt that laughter could help in some of the hardest of times.  One of her favorite places in the world was a little yellow cabin on a quiet lake in the white mountains of New Hampshire that her family visited for almost 2 decades each summer. She remained incredibly strong and brave throughout her long battle with her illness, never giving up even near the end despite the challenges she faced, as some have said, “a warrior”. 

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Rd. in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 10:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs- Holy Trinity Parish, 1409 Park Ave, Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Attendees of the mass are advised to go directly to the church. 

In place of flowers, the family (Anne Marie’s Wishes) requests donations sent to The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospitals.

A phrase she would say to her daughter whenever things seemed challenging was “Always look for your rainbows.”; she believed there was always something to find that was positive even if it was small!

Let her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
