Carmalina Rose (Materas) Gentes Pacheco

Carmalina Rose (Materas) Gentes Pacheco, of North Smithfield, RI celebrated her 101st birthday on October 15, 2025. Born on October 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Gregorio and Jennie (Giacobbi) Materas. She passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield.

She was the beloved wife of the late Rene Gentes of Woonsocket and the late Anthony Pacheco.

For many many years, Carmalina generously volunteered her time at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield and Because He Lives Soup Kitchen in Woonsocket. She was also employed at Mount St. Rita Health Center in Cumberland as a cook.

Her interests included knitting, oldies music, bingo, cooking, baking Italian cookies and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her sense of humor was contagious, and she remained a firecracker until the day she passed.

Carmalina is survived by her sons, Rene Gentes, Jr. of Connecticut and Richard Gentes of Woonsocket, also her daughters, Sue Giambi of California and Carol Carpentier of North Smithfield. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son, Vincent Gentes of Providence.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Rd., North Smithfield.

A Memorial Mass will be held on November 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Holy Trinity Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. The family will receive guests prior to the Memorial Mass from 9:30 - 9:55 AM at the entrance to the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carmalina can be made to the St. Antoine Residence Activities Fund.
