Casey Lynn Bassignani, 23, of Johnston, passed away on November 26, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Born in Providence, she was the beloved daughter of David and Lynn Bassignani.
Casey cherished every moment spent with her family and extended family. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Jake, and his wife, Taylor, her paternal grandparents, Peter and Andrea Bassignani, her maternal grandparents, Mary and Wayne Holden, and Barry Shaw, her uncle, Barry Shaw, Jr., and his wife, Marcy, and her aunt, Kara Bassignani. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs—Penny, Moose, and Cooper—with whom she spent countless hours cuddling.
Casey graduated from Barrington High School in 2020. After high school, she continued her education at CCRI, where she earned her Medical Billing Certificate. She worked full-time as a Billing Specialist at Ovation Healthcare (formerly A-Stat) in Pawtucket, RI. After a year in her position, Casey decided to pursue further education in Medical Imaging and returned to CCRI in October 2025 to begin coursework toward becoming a Medical Imaging Specialist.
Casey was kind to everyone she met and lit up every room with her smile and dimples. She loved adventure—taking the dogs on hikes, spending time with family and friends, visiting Level 99, and fiercely competing in backyard games. If you ever found yourself across from her in a game of cornhole, you knew to be on your toes, as she was not usually the most accurate one playing. She treasured annual family camping trips to Sebago, Maine, as well as many trips to Florida to visit her grandparents.
Her love for animals was unmatched. During a recent trip to Nashville, TN, for Taylor’s bachelorette party, the group spotted a stray dog on the side of the highway. Casey insisted they stop, and they stayed with the dog for four hours until Animal Control arrived. In that short time, she gave him the name “Nash.” When asked about the trip afterward, all she wanted to talk about was saving him.
When she wasn’t with her dogs, Casey was with her family. For her father, she was many things—his grocery shopping companion, woodworking assistant, and extra set of hands, even if she sometimes caused more laughter than help. For her mother, she was a therapist, walking partner, and enthusiastic accomplice in shopping outings. The two could be found weekly at TJ Maxx, The Paper Store, or Marshalls.
If Casey had a quiet moment to herself, she spent it reading. She could often be found heading out the door to Barnes & Noble to pick up the latest addition to her growing book collection.
