Charles C. Abate passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 15th, 2018 at age 63 surrounded by his loving family after a year-long battle with cancer.
He was born in Woonsocket, RI a son of the late Charles Abate Sr. and Elvira (Cardente) Abate, where, years later, he would meet his beloved wife Catherine (Egan) Abate, with whom he celebrated his 40th anniversary in April.
For the past 38 years he owned and operated Counterwerks, Inc., a countertop fabrication company based in Franklin, MA, where he built a reputation for high-quality products and excellent service.
A jack-of-all-trades with a penchant for helping everyone he met, Charles became the go-to problem solver for friends and family alike. When he wasn’t building, fixing, or tinkering with things, he enjoyed riding around in his Corvette, pushing his new granddaughter in her swing, and confounding everyone with his trademark deadpan wit.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his son Christopher, daughter Katlyn, granddaughter Kylie, his two brothers Gregory and David, and his sister Maria and her husband John Bolduc, as well as a large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Charles’ funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM from the Keene Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Road, North Smithfield, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. John’s Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville, RI. Visitation will be held inside the funeral home Tuesday, from 4-8 PM. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles honor can be made to: Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI, 02904.
