Dorothy L. Fanning, 88, of Smithfield, RI passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024, at the Stillwater Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Community in Smithfield. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Pacheco) Depointe. She was the loving wife of the late Gerard Fanning.
Dorothy worked as a Manager at Amperex and then for Mine Safety Appliances. She also worked for Tupperware, and for the School Department as a lunch lady. She enjoyed camping and traveling and filled her time with sewing and needlework.
She is survived by her children, Mark D. Fanning and his companion Donna from Providence, Maureen Church and her husband Kevin from Lincoln, Melissa McWhinnie and her husband Craig from Harrisville and Matthew J. Fanning from Woonsocket. Also her six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
She also leaves behind her siblings, Mary Auclair, Patricia Lavelle and Thomas Depointe.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael G. Fanning and her brother, Louis Depointe.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Egidio DiPardo & Sons Funeral Home, 75 Harris Ave., Woonsocket.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on May 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Charles Church, 8 Daniels St., Woonsocket. Her family will receive guests at 9:30 AM at the Church. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone, MA. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy can be made to a charity of one's choice.
