Edna Lapierre Obituary

Edna M. Lapierre, 86, of North Smithfield, RI passed away peacefully at the St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. Born in Gibbon, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Wilma (Wilcox) Thompson. She was predeceased by her husband, Captain Edward Lapierre, USAF who was killed in action in 1967 during the Vietnam War.

She graduated North Platte Senior High School in 1954 and then graduated in 1957 from The Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing. Edna joined the United States Air Force and attended Air University United States Air Force School of Aviation Medicine where she graduated with a diploma in Nursing and was granted the aeronautical designation of Flight Nurse. She was a Veteran of the United States Air Force where she worked as a nurse in many capacities. She was honorably discharged as 1st Lieutenant in 1961. She requested the discharge to be stationed with her husband and raise her family. She later went back to school attending CCRI for a refresher course in Nursing in 1984. For many years she was a homemaker. In her later years, she worked as a private nurse for Visiting Nurses Association and eventually retired from Mt. St. Francis in Woonsocket. Most of all she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her children, Belinda Stout and her husband Jeffrey of Newport, NH, Melody Mongeon and her husband Roy of Nasonville, RI and Kimberly Hebert of Mapleville, RI also six grandchildren, Edward and his wife Jennifer, Joshua, and his wife Brittany, Sharissa, Roger, Lucas, and Antoinette, two great-grandchildren, Henry and Joseph and her brother, Robert Thompson from Lincoln, NE.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Hendrich. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Rd., North Smithfield.

Calling hours will be held Friday October 28, 2022, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Final viewing will take place place at the funeral home on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Theresa’s Church at 11:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
