George R. Knipfing, 82, of North Smithfield, RI passed away at the Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Providence peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of nearly sixty-one years of Patricia (Noonan) Knipfing. Born in Rockville Centre, NY, he was the son of the late George B and Frances (Hesse) Knipfing.
George was a proud Captain in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War, receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1971.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Mary’s University where he was also recently inducted to their athletic Hall of Fame for track. He later earned his Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University. He worked for many years in international business and later taught business as a professor with the University of Phoenix.
George, along with his wife, lived in 10 states and for several years in the United Kingdom. He loved traveling the world, sports, playing golf and watching the news, but his greatest love was his family.
He is survived by his wife Patricia and children; George A., Deirdre, and Michael. His 9 grandchildren, Andrew, Nicole, George M., Geoffrey, Isabelle, Anthony, Heidi, Rowan, and Jonathan, and his 2 great-grandchildren, Daphne and Cloud.
He also leaves behind his siblings, Barbara, Carol, Howard and John.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Rd., North Smithfield.
Service details are respectfully omitted.
