Joseph H. Shayer, 91, of Providence, RI passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 27, 2023, at the Hope Hospice Palliative Care Center in Providence. Born in Mapleville, he was the son of the late Louis and Mae (Soutier) Shayer.
Joseph resided in Burrillville for 40 years and North Providence for 35 years. He was a bookkeeper at Summit Medical from which he retired in 1997. He was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army, and a graduate of Bryant College.
He is survived by his niece and caretaker, Carol Doorley, his nephews, Harold Shayer, Jr., Wallace, Walter, David and Michael Shayer, Sr., also nieces, Suzanne Coombs, Barbara Kurmaskie and Janice Rukstalis. His survivors also include 24 great-nieces and nephews, 26 great-great-nieces and nephews and 9 great-great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jennie, Harold, Wallace, Ernest and Louis Shayer and Mildred Richardson. Also his nephew, Walter T. Richardson and niece, Valerie Richardson.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 1496 Victory Highway., Oakland, RI.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 10 – 11:00 AM. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Pascoag.
