Kathleen R. Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024 at Brigham and Women’s hospital at the age of 67.
Born in Pawtucket, RI on September 18, 1957, Kathy was the daughter of the late Margaret (Corrigan) Crompton. She was one of eight children but she was especially close to her sisters/best friends Sandy Messier (Al) and Brenda Noreau (Rick) and her brothers Mike Crompton (Peggy) and John Crompton (Brenda), with whom she had countless laughs and happy memories.
Kathy was the loving wife of James S. Smith for over 47 years. Their love was unwavering and they were inseparable partners. Together they raised three daughters; Haley Cuddy (Ryan), Ashley Taylor (Kyle), and Kaitlyn Pond (Brad). She was the devoted Nonna to her six grandchildren, who were the center of her world; Benjamin and Joshua, London and Logan, and Hannah and William. Her love for them was evident by all who knew her, and they cherished every moment with her.
Kathy was known for her exceptional ability to connect with children. Her warmth, patience, and kindness made her a natural caregiver. Throughout her life Kathy worked in various childcare settings, including her own home daycare business, and she served in both the Lincoln and North Smithfield school systems. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she inspired and nurtured, but especially through her own children, grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a bright light in the world, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to shine.
