Lorraine E. (Hurley) Hassett

Hassett, Lorraine (Hurley), 91 of Smithfield RI and formerly of Phoenix, AZ and Harrisville, RI passed away on Sunday, September 20th at Fatima Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John H. Hassett. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Waters) Hurley. Lorraine was widely known for her tenure as a first grade teacher in the Foster-Glocester school system, touching many lives during the course of her 30-year teaching career. She was able to enjoy many of her retirement years in Phoenix, AZ before moving back to Rhode Island in 2016 to be with her family. She was a devout Catholic and her unwavering faith was an inspiration to all who knew her. Best known as “Grammie”, she is survived by three children, John H. Hassett Jr. and his wife Tracy of Barrington RI, Julia A. Capobianco and her husband Stephen of Warwick, RI and Mark F. Hassett and his wife Leanne of Bow, NH and predeceased by her daughter Karen Hassett; six grandchildren Brianna Hassett (Denis), Brendan Hassett, Maxine Butler, Sara and Jenna Capobianco and Brian Hassett; one great grandchild Theo Fejzollari and one sibling Virginia Danehy-Ryerson of Marlboro, MA. A private mass of Christian Burial was held on October 7, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Church in Harrisville RI. Burial with her late husband and daughter follow in St. Patrick’s cemetery, Harrisville
