Lydia L. (Hagerty) Hughes 80, of Fitchburg MA. passed away on Friday June 4, 2021. Born in Woonsocket she is the daughter of the late James Hagerty and Lydia (Pacheco).
She worked for many years at Hanscom Air Force base, employed as a civil service counselor.
She was a Veteran of the United States Navy and Navy Reserves, having served several tours before receiving her honorable discharge. While serving her country Lydia she was awarded The Good Conduct Award, Overseas Service Ribbon, The National Defense Service Medal and The Naval Reserves Meritorious Service Medal. She loved serving her country and did so with great pride and honor.
She was a communicant of St. Bernon’s Church in Fitchburg Massachusetts and St. Theresa’s Church in Nasonville RI.
Lydia was preceded in death by her son Scott Hughes.
She was the sister of James Hagerty, the late Christine Decourcy, Wayne Hagerty and Jeffrey Hagerty.
She leaves behind her loving grandchildren Kyle and Arron Hughes and a Great Granddaughter Olivia who were her world.
Lydia enjoyed traveling with friends, cooking, knitting and discussing politics.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home in Oakland, RI. A Mass of Christian will be held on June 25, 2021, at 10:00AM at St. Theresa’s Church Nasonville. Burial with Military Honors will take place immediately following in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Harrisville RI.
