Nelson J. Fernandes, Sr., 87, of Woonsocket, RI passed away at the Holiday Retirement Home in Lincoln on May 10, 2024, while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Ernest and Archangel (Barbosa) Fernandes. He was the loving husband of the late Doris (Carr) Fernandes.
He was the former spouse of Brenda (Champange) Fernandes.
Nelson worked most of his life in the construction business as a carpenter. He was also co-owner and operator of many convenience stores with his late wife Doris. He was the President of Carpenter’s local 808.
Nelson is survived by his children, Nelson Fernandes, Jr. and his wife Donna, of Georgia, Steven Fernandes and his wife Wendy, of Woonsocket, Debra Cote of Georgia, Gail Boucher of Woonsocket and Hope Charron and her husband Ronald, of Florida and Randy Fernandes. Also his grandchildren, Jason, Bethany, Amanda, Craig, Derrick, Cassandra, David, Ashley and his twelve great-grandchildren, Hailey, Austin, Autumn, Chase, Paizlee, Parker, Jaxxon, Christopher, Isabella, Trayvon, Vincenzo and Giovanni.
He also leaves behind his siblings, Robert, Al, Edward, Julio, and Roland Fernandes, sisters, Alice, Alcina, and Fatima and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Fernandes and siblings, Leo, Joseph, Ronald, George and Donald. Also a sister, Virginia and his granddaughter, Tiffany.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Rd., North Smithfield.
Burial, with Committal Prayers will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM in St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone, MA. Family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nelson, Sr. can be made to the Holiday Retirement Home, 30 Sayles Hill Rd., Manville.
