Norman "Flat" Ducharme Obituary

Norman Ducharme, “Flat”, 94, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2021, at Bayberry Commons with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Helen Ducharme, his loving wife for 69 years.  Born in Mapleville, RI on January 23, 1927, he was a son of the late Homer and Fabiola (Rock) Ducharme.  He lived most of his life in Mapleville, RI.

Flat is survived by four of his beloved children,  Norman Ducharme, Jr. and his wife MaryAnn of Fairfield, PA, Cheri Yanku and her husband Alan of Lincoln; Alan Ducharme and his wife MaryBeth of Cumberland, and Debra Giorgi and her husband Guido of Mapleville.  He will join his late infant twin sons, Keith and Kevin, who died days after their birth.  He was the proud grandfather of Neil, Missy, Alysha, Nathan, Kristen, Mikaela, Jennifer, Brett, and Kevin, and the cherished great-grandfather of Ava, Lily, Juliet, Braden, Anna, Molly, Evan, Ruston, Norah, Jenna, and the late Emma Rose.

He was the loving brother of the late Vivian Dwyer and her husband Dick, the late Anita Potter and her husband Bob, the late Robert (Bob) Ducharme, the late Russell (Gus) Ducharme and his wife Mae and is survived by his sister Pauline Shurick and her late husband Bill.  Norman also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

Typically, the life of a party, Flat was a character, who loved people, social gatherings, and celebrations.  Whether he was polka dancing with his wife and friends, attending family functions, playing cards with family members, or enjoying food and drink at varied restaurants, he was always positive, upbeat, and full of life.  He loved his family and was very supportive. He worked his way up the ladder and became a district manager at Coca-Cola, until retiring after 45 years of dedication to the company.

He loved to travel with his wife and especially enjoyed their Florida winter getaway in West Palm Beach for many years. Flat was also very active and involved, playing hockey in the town’s senior men’s league for many years, golfing at Country View and numerous golf courses in RI and FL, deer hunting in PA, or running for Town Councilman in Burrillville. Around the house, he was a craftsman and handyman, who shared his innate talent and lent a helping hand to family & friends. Flat was also a deeply religious and passionate parishioner at Our Lady of Good Help Church.
