Sandra Abrajano Obituary

Charlton, MA – Sandra J. Abrajano (1943-2024). Sandra Jean ‘Sandi’ Abrajano passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at her home in Charlton, Massachusetts. Sandi married Robert F. Abrajano with whom shared the last 52 years. Born a twin September 24, 1943 to parents John and Alice (Whittaker) Gartland, she was raised at the historic Western Hotel in Nasonville, RI.

Sandi attended Nasonville Grammar School and graduated from Burrillville High School in the Class of 1961. In her early years Sandi worked for Robinson Green & Beretta and Tupperware as a receptionist, and as a seamstress for Standard Romper. Her love of flying and adventure led Sandi to become a United Airlines flight attendant in 1969, retiring in 1989. Sandi co-owned the aquatic sporting goods company, Marine Sports Design under the brand Guppy Gear. Sandi lived in Chicago, IL for 40 years, relocating to the quiet retreat of Baker Pond in Charlton, MA in 2015 to be closer to her beloved family.

Sandi had many interests and talents included dancing and singing as part of the original Assembly Players in Harrisville, RI, and later with Theatre Works, in Woonsocket RI. She often walked in many local parades including the annual Woonsocket Autumn Fest. In Chicago she organized 5K runs in the neighborhood of Norwood Park. She was recognized by the Chicago Tribune for her frequent contributions to the op ed pages. With an infectious smile, and palpable passion for friends and family, Sandi will be best remembered for her consummate hospitality and penchant for filling the yard with copious decorations on any given holiday.

Sandi is survived by her husband, Robert Abrajano, of Charlton, MA, many nieces and nephews and sisters-in-laws, Barbara Abrajano and Suzanne Gartland. Sandi was predeceased by her older brother, John “Jack” Gartland and twin brother, Edward “Ted” Gartland and her three sisters, Evelyn Zifcak, Dorothy Orlowsky and Kathryn Allaire.
