Steven Haenel Obituary

Steven P. Haenel, 66, of North Smithfield, passed away at Landmark Medical Center on January 21, 2022. Born in El Paso, TX he was the son of Paul and Phyllis (Pratt) Haenel and brother of Lance and Linda Haenel. He was a loving and devoted husband of Margaret (Fortune) Haenel for 30 years. 

He is survived by his mother ,Phyllis Davis, stepfather, Bruce Davis, wife, Margaret Haenel, brother, Lance Haenel and children, Dylan and Felicia Haenel, Colleen Williams and Kayla Shewchuk. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Steven was an award-winning dog trainer for Charter, Kerry Hills, and E.P. Kennels. He won over a dozen awards for his dog training, including his recognition in the Who’s Who (2005-2006) Edition.

He also worked many years as a bus driver for Laidlaw Bus Co. and as a tour bus driver for Academy Bus prior to his retirement.

Steven was not only considered to be a hero to his family but also performed the Heimlich Maneuver saving the lives of two fellow diners.

He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, boating, hiking, and camping with his family.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Keene-Brown Funeral Home, 445 Greenville Rd., North Smithfield. Services are private. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Steven’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
